Iteration #3, Final.

At last, my final book has completed!

As for my last iteration one, I have putted more effort onto the cover design and actual book contents inside.
For cover, I used the same type of papers that was used for second one, but with more variation of patterns, colors, and overall much more effort put into it.
The total pages that I used for my book are 12. For the contents of my book, I have drawn 6 of abstract illustrations with a variety of mediums, such as oil pastels, blue pens, and color markers. Unfortunately, I decided to not write written words on my book, because the words would be blurred with marks from the art mediums that I used. Therefore, my book only fulfills "visual" aspect of my original plan, in ironic contrast to my desire of combining both visual and written narratives into one. I consider my book as total abstract sketchbook.
Overall, the bookbinding was really easy and fun in some ways. The book is made in traditional binding style with common papers that could be found anywhere. I could have got into more complex and "complete" procedures, such as hardcover making and consulting printing press or such, but I had to finish it with keeping deadline of project due.
I am satisfied with what I've done and hope you guys like it!

Iteration #2.

I went onto creating my second draft immediately after posting my first blog entry.

For my second one, I used the same method of traditional book binding as I did for my first one, but with improvement on materials.
For the cover paper, I used vellum paper I found in my book, which helped me to measure the direction for punching holes with consideration.
The total page count is ten; I planned to do more pages like 20, but I decided to do with 10 pages due to time issue.
I decorated the cover with some decorating papers that I found in my house, same as to the vellum papers. I glued them onto vellum paper cover with bond.
I haven't write on the inside papers because I finished making this second draft during the midnight time, when I was too tired on putting more energy onto that.
Overall, I am confident on what I will do as the final iteration. Though I have to consider on writing 2 short essays and 1 reflective essay, which are due on this wednesday, along with journals....

Work after Work after Work.

Iteration book #1.

With help of Tara, I made the first draft of my book project back in 2nd or third week of November. I was intensely frustrated and overwhelmed by incoming final projects from my classes that was due on upcoming short week. I did not know what to do or where to start with because of puzzling project priority on which I had to do firstly. Tara has provided me lots of help by providing materials for my first book; needle, thread, punching tool, papers, and instruction book on how to do it.
At first, I thought each process was to be hard with knotting thread onto papers to hold them together since I had little experience with knotting threads. However, when I engaged on each steps of binding books together, I found out that the progression was done without any hard obstacles that I expected before doing it!

Punching holes between pages...

...tying thread between the holes...

...more progression with connecting pages together....

And Done!

History of Bookmaking and Plans for my book

History of Bookbinding

Long before the creation of first civilized society, communications between ancient humans were recorded on the wall of caves, where they lived. They marked their records of thoughts, experience, and ritual images with sharpened stones and any other personal item relics that allowed them to imprint their historical journals on the wall. The most famous example of ancient "writing" is the cave paintings in Lascaux of France.
As the humans evolved, in terms of intellectual and cultural knowledge, and created ancient civilizations, their techniques on recording their writings also improved from simple abstract paintings on cave wall to more variety of different mediums and writing methods. Different civilizations in peculiar nations recorded their written texts on different mediums, such as bamboo scrolls in China and papyrus papers used in Ancient Egypt. Most of these early typo-graphed mediums were written on one side only, and had to be kept in secret storage.
Significant development on recording the written language were made in Europe around the 15th century. A German blacksmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the technique of printing, in which he used certain printing devices that imprinted written languages on papers. With his idea of printing press, Gutenberg has allowed the people to read the formatted papers in one completed form, or was known as "book". People were now able to read texts in "movable form", as they carried their books to anywhere and any time they want. Also, the words were written on both side of the paper
Gutenberg's print-pressing has become the standard format of printing books and started to be generalized through the globe in long time of procession in improvement with advanced technology.

Planning

For my own book, I am planning to create a visually abstract collaboration with words and artworks. The subjects for writings will be about my gibberish thoughts on the theme that I would decide on time of working on contents of the book. The inspiration for this idea was from my old art project that I have worked on during my high school year; the objective for the project was called "Visual-Journal", and I was allowed to create a variety of different artworks with combination of numerous words on various topics that I drew upon it.
It would be like visual poem book, but with more involvement of different art styles that I want to try it.

Choice of telling narratives

INTRODUCTION

Book always generate literal creativity and energy on its storytelling

When we read or see any kinds of books, there are countless different narratives been told with its theme/message been taught to me while reading.

Some books tell the action-packed adventure stories, generated with good vs. evil plot line, with entertaining writing skill that keeps the audience to go through with the story. Some gives educational information on the history of certain objects and even introductory on making those objects on the reader's own. Depending on how the author wants to tell their story in peculiar styles of their own, many of books are presented with illustrations along with the texts, giving both verbal and visual treatment to the reader on telling the story more effectively.
With all of these applications of different styles of storytelling, books allow the readers to be immersed with a variety of fantasies/realities that we wish to participate, as differed by each genres the authors choose as their medium; comic book, poem, novel, instruction guide, journal, and so on.

As for my choice for making something that I have never made before, I am going to make a book of my own with traditional book formatting than with technological application.
The reason I want to make a book is because I want to earn experience at publishing my desired narratives with literal augmentation and to practice craftsmanship on crating literal narrative on my own.

Note to my friends and teacher:

I deeply apologize for been unable to show any effort on working on this project. I was so busy at concentrating on multiple important projects from other classes; Heck, I even stayed up all night without sleep on doing essay project for my other class!
Oh well, it's never too late on working on this project till late night and weekday...
